Arrecife airport

Arrecife airport is located 5km from the southwest. Many European and Spanish air ports are served by it. Every year thousands of tourist travel through arrecife airport. In 1930, first time a need for airport felt in order to make connections with other islands and mainland. Junkers JU52 EC-DAM was the first aircraft which landed at the airport on 24th July, 1941. In order to begin the international and domestic flights, along with passenger terminals, other facilities were provided such as additional ramp space and runway extension. In 1999, the airport had the capability of holding a capacity of 6 million people every year.

In 2002, aviation museum was formed in place of Guacimeta passenger terminal keeping in mind the interest of both the locals about the island and tourists. On Monday, it remains close but the opening time of the museum is from 10am-2pm. Tourist can see audio video presentations available at museum.

On 31 October 2008, an air Europa flight had 74 passengers aboard along with other crew members, over ran the runway. But fortunately no injuries were reported from this incident.
